Birds of Australia (sub. Ornithology)
The source of these stunning illustrations is the Englishwoman Elizabeth Gould, who is the skilled hand behind more than 650 illustrations and lithographies. Besides her work with her husband, John Gould, Elizabeth Gould also illustrated for Charles Darwin.
The book The Birds of Australia, was published in seven volumes between 1840-1848 and written by John Gould, who was one of the first people to describe the ornithology of the Australian continent. He spent a lot of time in the field describing his own observations, that were supported by Elizabeth Goulds masterful scientific illustrations.
