Botanical Blue Prints (sub. Botany)
Inspired by the cyanotype process, one of the oldest ways of recording the world around us, we've remixed these classic flower prints.
The process of cyanotype uses a mixture of iron compounds which, when exposed to UV light from the sun, create these intense Prussian Blue colours with a surprisingly detailed white shadow of the subject that was recorded.
The technique was invented by John Herschel in 1841, and was popularized by photographer and botanist Anna Atkins. She published "Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions" in October 1843.
